The rapid development of new services, such as HD mobile videos, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), Internet of Vehicles, and intelligent stadiums, impose higher requirements on networks, including ultra-low latency, localized service processing, and customization capability. A number of functions of the mobile core networks must be located in close proximity to the content source. MEC deploys mobile gateways and a number of third-party applications and contents near the edge of access networks. This implementation reduces network bandwidth consumption, allows service customization, and improves user experience.
