IP+Optical Synergy

IP+Optical Synergy

With the full cloudification of network data storage, rapid development of Internet services, and constant emergence of new services, the traffic growth rate will exceed 50% over the next few years. As the traffic model is usually disordered and complex, more data-intensive traffic emerges, and services become more sensitive to SLA indicators such as delay. These changes drive carriers to pursue Internet-based transformation and converge IT as well as CT to build next-generation backbone networks, posing higher requirements on resource utilization, SLA, and simplified O&M.

Huawei's SDN IP+optical solution reshapes the resource configuration pattern of traditional networks. This solution achieves effective synergy between IP and optical networks through software-based network configuration control, simplifying network O&M while improving network intelligence and automation.

Use Cases

Multi-Layer Discovery and Visualization

In response to problems such as layer-specific network visibility and difficult fault locating, the NCE-based IP+optical solution displays resource, traffic, and fault information by automatically generating a 3D network view through multi-layer topology discovery, improving O&M efficiency.

Multi-Layer link Automatic Provisioning

Cross links are the bridge between IP and optical networks. After optical devices and resources are deployed, the optical network can support many potential multi-layer links. The IP network is aware of and able to activate the potential multi-layer links on demand when IP traffic changes or according to protection requirements.

Multi-Layer Restoration

Multi-layer restoration by optical ASON (MLR-O) restores service paths through ASON rerouting. When a fault occurs, NCE dynamically computes protection paths based on available optical resources, protecting networks against multiple fiber cuts and saving wavelength resources. For low-priority services that do not require fast IP-layer protection mechanisms, cost-effective MLR-O is an ideal choice.

Multi-Layer Analysis and Simulation

NCE can analyze the impact of optical node and link faults on IP tunnels and links through fault simulation, while also generating analysis reports. This helps minimize dependency on manual intervention and cutover accidents, improve network robustness, and simplify O&M.

Multi-Layer Optimization

NCE simplifies O&M by automatically optimizing network-wide service resources and policies based on multi-layer traffic information. Optimization can be performed based on either traffic status or latency. If network congestion occurs, NCE automatically performs multi-layer capacity expansion. If there is a deterioration in latency and the IP layer cannot solve the problem, NCE performs multi-layer bypassing.
