5G Gigabit Networks: Smart Travel from the "Amazing Airport"

Embrace 5G gigabit networks to create a new, smart travel experience. Recently, Huawei supported Beijing Daxing International Airport — one of the "New Wonders of the World" — in deploying the 5G gigabit networks, creating the world's largest 5G smart airport.

The airport features magnificent geometric patterns and a futuristic style. From above, the airport looks like some sort of mysterious space station, from which the planet might explore the stars.

The beauty of the newly-built Beijing Daxing International Airport is plain for all to see. Before its completion, it revealed its 700,000 m2 "largest roof in the world", which is fascinating to fans of industrial architecture worldwide.

In addition to its overwhelming beauty, this revolutionary mega project also boasts super convenience, granting travelers a completely new experience when they fly.

The airport's full-range coverage of 5G gigabit networks, both indoor and outdoor, enable communications with large bandwidth, low latency, and extensive connectivity. These networks are a technological marvel that create a smarter travel experience.

At the 5G Network Innovation Seminar held in Beijing on August 15, Huang Lin, a representative of China Eastern Airlines, gave some perspective on how the airlines are applying 5G at Daxing International Airport. During his talk, Huang Lin revealed the details on future smart travel strategies based on 5G network services.

At the seminar, Huang Lin also used the LampSite-powered 5G indoor networks that were jointly deployed by China Telecom Beijing and Huawei. With the 5G networks, he established a connection between Beijing Nanyueyuan Hotel and Daxing International Airport, and tested the speed of the 5G networks onsite.

Huang Lin also gave some information on the industry's demand for smart travel. He said, "Travel service seems very simple, but it actually involves a lot of management. As an industry that serves many different users around the world, the management of each link needs to be efficient, high quality, and have a human touch. Travel management includes the management of passenger flow, baggage flow, and information flow. Passenger experiences should be safe, efficient, and comfortable; luggage management should be accurate, fast, and comprehensive; and information flow should be secure, controllable, visible from end to end, and can fully support the operations of the airlines."

China Eastern Airlines has innovatively combined facial recognition technology with 5G gigabit networks at Daxing International Airport. With 5G, facial recognition, and other supporting technologies like AR, VR, and AI, Daxing International Airport has been able to provide upgraded services like "facial pass", baggage tracking, and recognition with AR glasses.

Among these new services, "facial pass" allows passengers to pass through check-in, VIP room, and boarding checks without showing their ID cards, boarding passes, or any other documents. This will not only bring a barrier-free experience to passengers, but shorten inspection and boarding times. All in all, this technology will bring a new intervention-free and paperless experience for passengers throughout the entire process.

There are even more "magical" upgrades around the corner for smart travel, helping us constantly break the stereotypes surrounding traditional airports. Extensive industrial ingenuity has been applied, creating a new level of convenience at Daxing International Airport.

Today, 5G-enabled smart travel has been officially realized at Daxing International Airport, paving the way for unparalleled new experiences for us all.

In the future, 5G will be deployed in many new airports, changing the way people travel and live, and ensuring all passengers enjoy a wonderful experience every time they fly.
