Hot VoWiFi Market

On September, 2014, iPhone6 and iPhone6 plus were released. This accelerates VoLTE commercial use and ignites VoWiFi enthusiasm.

Hutchison Strategic Deployment

Hutchison, Hong Kong provides a differentiated 4G convergence communication solution for Hong Kong subscribers using Wi-Fi Calling of iPhone 6. This helps attract high-end subscribers, provides subscribers with HD voice services, implements seamless handovers between VoLTE and VoWiFi, and enables multi-device communications.

Huawei Assist Hutchison to Exploit New Services

On June 20, 2015, Hutchison, Hong Kong declared commercial use of VoWiFi, which supports seamless roaming and unified charging with existing VoLTE networks. This greatly improves user experience in poor indoor coverage and becomes a global convergence deployment model of VoLTE and VoWiFi.

VoWiFi is enabled for all VoLTE subscribers by default, and all VoWiFi call fees are included in the monthly package. Subscribers can purchase a $10 package for additional 1000-minute calls. Subscribers can initiate calls to national fixed-line numbers and international numbers when Wi-Fi is available.

VoWiFi deployment enables 3HK to use 16,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in Hong Kong to provide excellent communication experience for subscribers, said Chen Wanzhen, Chief Operating Officer of Hutchison, Hong Kong. VoWiFi is another breakthrough for cooperation between Huawei and Hutchison following VoLTE.

As a strategic partner of Hutchison, Huawei provides an E2E VoWiFi solution. Hutchison reused the live IMS Core and upgraded the EPC and SDM to support ePDG and AAA. It took Hutchison three months to perform tests and finally release for commercial use.
