CloudRAN: Embrace "All Cloud" Strategy, Build Agile Network

Following the trend of industry-wide digital transformation, Huawei develops an "All Cloud" strategy in 2016. This blueprint contributes for the construction of an efficient network and the promotion of agile performance to boost industry development, improve user experience, and help customers achieve considerable business success. The strategy is targeted at four aspects (equipment, network, services, and operation), which supplies comprehensive upgrades to the core network and employs the techniques of pooling hardware resources, and a complete distribution of software architecture, as well as fully automated systems.

Huawei's CloudRAN solution, embracing the "All Cloud" strategy, enhances operator's competitiveness in new markets of IoT, videos, cloud, and 5G services. The cloudification of network and operating system is also promoted to ensure operators possess significant advantages in network agility.

A traditional architecture suggests resources cannot be dynamically adjusted in an area due to the separate organization and individual management in related sites. However, Huawei's CloudRAN solution adopts cloud technologies and pools hardware resources to maximize resource sharing. Wireless sites form the basis as the most precious operator assets in the mobile network, which must be maximized to add further subsequent value. The CloudRAN solution satisfies various hardware resource service requirements as well as performs coordination and an appropriate prioritization of resource scheduling to derive a system of efficient configuration.

Huawei's CloudRAN solution, applies cloud technologies to provide a flexible architecture of real-time and non-real-time scheduling at different layers, so that network function units can be deployed according to service requirements. The real-time scheduling layer is deployed near users to accurately and efficiently manage air interface resources, and the non-real-time scheduling layer is centrally deployed to support multi-technology coordination and cross-site scheduling. In a Huawei CloudRAN network, functional units are deployed as required to the nodes of wireless convergence, backbone convergence, or core convergences to promote network efficiency and capability.

Huawei's CloudRAN solution, using cloud technologies, automatically results in the deployment of services. New service processes and interfaces can be flexibly standardized and defined to automate resource scheduling and fault handling. Voice, video, and IoT, as major services in the future mobile network require differentiated deployment requirements for the network. The solution provides network slicing to customize, tailor, orchestrate, and manage network functions. Various services are then automatically deployed on the same network, which facilitates the rapid introduction of new technologies.

The CloudRAN, reconstructing the access network architecture with cloud technologies, will manifest as the next de facto standard of wireless network architecture to meet diversified demands. Huawei's CloudRAN solution enhances operators' agility in the development and provision of new services to solidify positions in the future.
