DCI Backbone Network Solution

DCI Backbone Network Solution

By 2025, 90% of services will be migrated to the cloud, being hosted in DCs. DCs are getting larger, and inter-DC traffic will quadruple over the coming five years, requiring large-capacity transmission and grooming. Meanwhile, DCs are also moving from population centers to low-cost areas, resulting in longer distance between DCs and end users and increasing latency challenges. Moreover, cloud services are provisioned in minutes, requiring agile service provisioning. Huawei's data center interconnect (DCI) backbone network solution meets the requirements in the cloud era and provides customers with backbone networks featuring high capacity, long-haul transmission, low latency, and fast service provisioning.

Solution Features

1 1

OXC and OTN clustering provide large-capacity switching

Huawei's latest OXC products support 32-degree all-optical switching. More than 20T capacity is supported in each direction. A single device offers a switching capacity reaching 320 Tbit/s to 640 Tbit/s and meets the full mesh grooming requirements between super DCs and ensure zero latency. Compared with electrical switching equipment, the OptiX OSN 1800 reduces required equipment room footprint and fiber connections by 90%. In addition, Huawei's OTN cluster solution supports 100T+ OTN switching and provides universal slots, physical isolation between subracks, and high availability with low power consumption, fully meeting the requirements of electrical-layer granular switching.

Long-haul transmission

Devices in DC equipment rooms require a small footprint and low power consumption. Therefore, 100G CFP modules will be the trend in DCI transmission. Compared with unpluggable 100G module, the 100G CFP module is 70% smaller, consumes 50% less power, and is plug-and-play. The transmission distance of Huawei's 100G CFP and 200G CFP modules reaches 5000 km and 3000 km, respectively. Huawei's 100G module supports a maximum transmission distance of 14,000 km.

Low latency for optimal service experience

The end-to-end latency of a backbone network is the sum of the fiber latency and service processing and forwarding latency of devices. Huawei's simplified network architecture with one-hop transmission significantly reduces required fiber length and forwarding node quantity, and the OXC devices deployed in DCs have zero node latency. Together, this minimizes end-to-end latency and provides optimal service experience.

Agile services

NCE makes the network more intelligent. Network functions are virtualized to minimize required inter-department collaboration and manual approval, allowing broadband services to be provisioned in minutes. In addition, users can adjust bandwidth smoothly based on their service requirements and select routes based on the delay policy. The delay of selected routes can be committed, guaranteed, and managed, meeting requirements for low latency and fast service provisioning.
